How can I test the speed of my ADSL connection?

To test the speed of your line please visit the following website:

www.speedtester.bt.com

If your Max connection has just been installed, these figures will vary within the first 10 days.

Why do my speeds vary?

This is perfectly normal, upto 8Mb products will vary as your connection is always being adjusted, you will find the first 10 days will be the most noticeable, after this time your speeds will become a lot more predictable.

Why is my broadband connection down?

For the first 10 days, you may notice small drops in connection for around a minute at a time, if however your broadband connection drops and does not reconnect after an hour, firstly reboot your router by taking the power out from the back of it and plugging it back in. If you still cannot connect please give our support department a call and they will be able to give further help.

What if I do not want a 12 month contract?

ADSL services are available with free activation or modem if you have a 12 month contract, a one month contract is available, although you will need to pay for activation.

How fast will I be able to download at?

This is dependant on the speed of your ADSL connection, typically if you had a 2Mb connection you could download a 5Mb file in about 22 seconds, however this is dependant on who you are downloading from.

How do I check if my exchange is enabled for up to 8Mb broadband?

Please see the availability checker on the home page of this web site to see if your exchange is enabled, along with what speeds you can expect.

Can I use a MAC with Inweb Broadband?

Yes, using a MAC to connect to your broadband services is just as simple to set up as a PC.

Can I have a fixed IP address?

Yes, currently all broadband products come with a dynamic IP address, static IP's are available in blocks of 1, 5 or 29 but please see the products section of the ADSL order form for current prices for more than 5 fixed IP addresses.

What does 'Self Install' mean?

Originally BT would come to your premises and connect the router to your phone line and set services up for you, this of course was very expensive to do and meant you needed to be at the premises for the engineer visit.

Nowdays you can order your broadband services online through an ISP. We will have ADSL installed on your line, which means all you need to do is connect a router and input your login details.

What is my minimum term contract?

All customers who opt for free activation are subject to a 12 month minimum contract, if however you do not want a 12 month contract a charge is made for activation.  For the latest prices please see the ADSL section within the web site

Once we submit the order, BT will usually take around 5-7 days, on some occasions this may take slightly longer.

Do I still need to pay BT line rental?

Yes, failure to pay line rental may mean BT suspend services on your line. If BT stop your PSTN services your broadband will also stop working, you may then need to re-order broadband on your line before services are restored.

However Edge Telecom might have already taken over your line in which case you would be paying us for this service. If we have not already taken over your line rental and provided savings and a single bill please contact us or see the traditional voice section within this web site.

Can I still use my telephone line?

Yes, Broadband allow you to use your telephone line and browse the Internet at the same time.

Can I migrate my broadband services to Edge Telecom?

Yes, simply speak to your current ISP and ask for a MAC code, once this has been issued please visit https://inweb.co.uk/order_broadband.cgi and select 'Migration' from the list of options.

MAC codes must be issued within 5 days of your request.

Whats the difference between the upto 2Mbps and the upto 8Mbps products?

These two products work in different ways, the fastest possible speed with a 2Mbps line will be at around 240kbps, where as with the up to 8Mb product your line will adjust to give you the fasted possible speed up to 8Mb, the average figure is around 5Mb.

Max products work out the fastest possible speed within the first 10 days, during this time you may see small drops in connection and varying speeds, where as the the 2Mb product does not go through this process.

What is ADSL?

ADSL stand for Asymmetric Digital subscriber Line, it allows you to browse web sites send email and download large files in a fraction of the time compared to a dialup modem.

How fast is Edge Telecom Broadband?

Up to 8Mb broadband users will automatically get the fastest speed possible upto 8Mb. Your actual speed is dependant on the distance you live from your local exchange.

If you live close to the exchange you should be able to get close to 8Mb while customers further away will get around 2-6Mb.

The actual ADSL Max line rate supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use, after which time the highest stable rate possible will be set.

What is a fixed/dynamic IP address?

Each computer connected to the Internet is given an IP address, this identifies who you are, if you have a dynamic IP address this will be assigned to you each time you connect to the Internet.

Fixed IP address's stay the same, this can be useful if you are using a VPN, web or mail server.

What do I need for Edge Telecom Broadband?

To use your broadband connection you will need the following:

* BT line
* PC / Mac
* ADSL router/modem
*Micro filters for all equipment connected to your telephone line.
