In September 2005 Edge acquired Trilogy’s LLU network covering 19 BT exchanges. Since then Edge has gone on to take over the Fibernet/Global Crossing UK DSL network, providing LLU access in locations such as Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, London & Manchester. More recently Edge and has just acquired Inweb Networks. Inweb adds BT TDM interconnect and BT Central capability as well as web hosting and server colocation to Edge’s growing product portfolio. With these recent additions Edge Telecom is now one of the largest independent LLU operators in the UK.
The Difference with Edge
As Edge did not invest in “last mile” copper or fibre it is not afraid of the erosion of traditional Leased Line revenues. On the contrary one of Edge’s core objectives is to provide a true leased line alternative at a price that more SME’s can afford.
UK businesses are consuming far more bandwidth than any of us thought possible just 5 years ago. But whilst the cost of computer performance has steadily reduced in price, the cost of non contended 1:1 bandwidth has seen nothing like the price drops. Unlike most of our competitors, the entire Edge product portfolio is available in non contended, 5:1 or 10:1 options.
In addition, Edge has done away with the traditional 60 working days install periods. Edge’s standard installation SLA is 10 working days with many circuits going live in as little as 5 working days. Edge also offers various care packages Gold, Silver and Bronze offering repairs in as little as 5 working hours.
Extending our customers reach
Edge does not intend to sell directly into end users, but to work with specific Carriers and Resellers to extend their own networks reach, in areas that are not economically viable to build out their own network. Edge can connect in to your own network over NNI or L2TP from either of our two London PoPs.
Committed to customer service
Edge is proud to say that all of its customer service is provided from the Operations centre in Lincoln. Edge even provides priority numbers for fault escalation for our Gold care customers with no IVR systems, just straight through to the people that can fix your problems. But most of the time our carrier partners will not need to call customer services. All of our Carrier & Reseller partners will have direct access to our Network management platform; this allows for status checks and remote diagnostics and line tests for all of your Edge supplied circuits. The management also provides an integrated trouble ticket system so you can track the progress of any current faults in real time.
